SICKLE CELL and THALASSAEMIA

An awareness and information conference for:

Sufferers Survivors Carers Older & Young people affected by Sickle Cell and Thalassaemia.

DATE:         THURSDAY 23 March  2006.

TIME:         10.30 am  -  3.30 pm (Registration 9.30 am).

VENUE:      966 Garratt Lane, Tooting Broadway, SW17.

TUBE:         Tooting Broadway on Northern Line.

BACKGROUND:  Sickle Cell & Thalassaemia are inherited blood  conditions that  

affect mainly people from Africa, the Caribbean, Asia, the Mediterranean and Saudi Arabia.  

 

AIM OF THE CONFERENCE:  To raise awareness and highlight the importance

of these conditions, and in  particular to discuss the risk factors, screening, diagnosis, treatment and support services available from the statutory and voluntary sectors.

 

GUEST SPEAKER:-  Mrs Sherlene Rudder, MBE is the President of the Sickle Cell

Society.  She is currently employed as Principal Genetic Counsellor with the North West

Thames Regional Genetic Service – North West London Hospitals NHS Trust – Harrow.   

She is a qualified Registered Nurse, Midwife and Health Visitor.

  The conference is for everyone, and already,  it is  promising to be a good event
