The Age Activity Centre, formally known as the "Wandsworth
Black Elderly Project (W.B.E.P)", is a charitable organisation
that was set up in 1984 by our parent organisation "RURAL
BREAKS" to meet the needs of the Black Elderly living in the
borough of Wandsworth. Providing for them a community centre
where participants could have social interaction with people of
their own race and culture as well as the opportunity to learn
and develop new skills and to maximise on experiences
gained throughout their lives in the UK.
The centre, which is
currently located at 966 Garratt Lane, has a distinct Caribbean
flavour and although in essence it is still geared to meet the
needs of the black elderly, it is 'inclusive' and welcomes
people of all racial and ethnic backgrounds who may be looking
for an environment that's just a "little bit different". |

Indoor Gardens
A stroll
through our conservatory gardens, which are filled with a wide
variety of tropical plants, creates a warm and welcoming
atmosphere right from the very start and soon helps you to forget the
world outside. The plants, all of which have been donated to the
centre by members both past and present, are cared for and nurtured by
our current members.
